facebook_on_this_day_feature_officialnewsroom.jpg
Similar to its 'Look Back' and 'Year in Review' features, Facebook can now show you what you did/ posted on the same day in the past. The social networking site on Tuesday introduced a new feature called 'On This Day' to take you through those old memories that you may have forgotten.
Announcing the new feature, Facebook noted that it is not yet available to all users, and will be rolling out globally over the next few days.
The On This Day feature will show you posts, photos, videos shared by you or tagged by others from the same date in the past years, all on a single page, unlike the curated video format in Look Back but similar to the timeline format of Year in Review.
Facebook's new On This Day feature will be accessible on both desktop and mobile in the bookmarks menu, search, News Feed stories, and also on a dedicated page - https://www.facebook.com/onthisday.
Once on the page, users can choose to subscribe to notifications so that they will get an alert whenever they have memories to look back on. Users will also be able to edit and delete old posts, or decide to share the memories with their friends, notes Facebook.
"For example, you might see past status updates, photos, posts from friends and other things you've shared or been tagged in - from one year ago, two years ago, and so on. Only you will see this content unless you decide to share it with your friends."

Nasa's Curiosity Rover Finds Mars Has Nitrogen, Key to life

Nasa's Curiosity rover has found nitrogen on the surface of Mars, a significant discovery that adds to evidence the Red Planet could once have sustained life, the space agency said Tuesday.By drilling into Martian rocks, Curiosity found evidence of nitrates, compounds containing nitrogen that can be used by living organisms.
The Curiosity team has already found evidence that other ingredients needed for life, such as liquid water and organic matter, once existed at the site known as Gale Crater.
"Finding a biochemically accessible form of nitrogen is more support for the ancient Martian environment at Gale Crater being habitable," Jennifer Stern of Nasa's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland said in a statement.
Nitrogen is essential for all known forms of life, because it's a building block of DNA and RNA.
However, "there is no evidence to suggest that the fixed nitrogen molecules found by the team were created by life," Nasa cautioned.
"The surface of Mars is inhospitable for known forms of life."
The research team suggested that instead, the nitrates are ancient and likely came from meteorite impacts, lightning and other non-biological processes. On Earth and Mars, nitrogen is found in the form of nitrogen dioxide gas -- two atoms locked together so tightly that they do not react easily with other molecules.
The nitrogen atoms must be separated or "fixed" so they can participate in the chemical reactions needed for life.
"On Earth, certain organisms are capable of fixing atmospheric nitrogen and this process is critical for metabolic activity," Nasa said."However, smaller amounts of nitrogen are also fixed by energetic events like lightning strikes."

Twitter Will Defend User Voices: CEO Costolo on Section 66A Verdict

On the day the Supreme Court quashed Information Technology Act's Section 66A as violative of constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech, Twitter chief executive Dick Costolo on Tuesday said in New Delhi the platform will ensure that its users' "voices" are defended, even as it would make it harder for any "abuse" to take place.
Describing the apex court's judgement as "very exciting", Costolo, on his first visit to India, told reporters: "We have a great reputation as a company for defending and respecting our user voices. We will defend and protect our users interests across the world."
Apart from striking down Section 66A, the apex court said it found meaningless, Section 79(3)b of the act, which seeks to assign liabilities on "intermediaries" like Twitter and Facebook, for failing to remove expeditiously, while preserving the evidence of, what is considered objectionable material by the government and its agencies.
"The beauty of Twitter is that people regularly come together to show their wonderful spirit in support of causes," said Costolo.Asked about Twitter's policy for dealing with terror groups like ISIS using the platform, he said: "Accounts of terror groups like ISIS are against law and service terms."

china_internet_control_ap.jpg
Welcoming the Supreme Court's decision to quash Section 66A of the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000, on Tuesday, Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said people in power should be tolerant and liberal towards criticism.
"We welcome this decision by the Supreme Court. The government is committed to free speech. India is a democratic country and free flow of ideas should be respected. We do not seek to curtail any right," Prasad told reporters in a press meet in New Delhi.

He said social media platforms should also practise some 'self-restraint'.
Earlier in the day, he said the government did not favour gagging dissent or honest criticism on social media.
Prasad said: "We respect communication of ideas on social media, not in favour of curtailing honest criticism, dissent on social media."Earlier, the Supreme Court ruled that Section 66A violates Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution which guarantees freedom of speech.

Noble Bitcoin Exchange to Use Nasdaq Technology

silver_bitcoin_reuters.jpg
Noble Markets said Tuesday it is adopting Nasdaq technology for its planned Bitcoin exchange, aiming to give institutional investors a credible platform for trading the digital currency.
The startup said it would implement Nasdaq's X-stream Trading technology, already used by more than 30 smaller markets worldwide, to bring the Bitcoin trade to the Wall Street mainstream from often murky fringe exchanges. Noble hopes that the more proven, transparent and high-speed platform could revive sagging interest in Bitcoin after a year of scandals popped the initial balloon of Bitcoin fervor.
"Noble was founded on the principal of bringing credible market structure and institutional trading expertise to the digital currency marketplace," Noble founder and chief executive John Betts said in a statement.
"Our marketplace, powered by X-stream, allows us to leverage a proven and trusted venue that supports global trading worth billions of dollars reliably every day."
Noble did not give a target for when its exchange would launch.Billed as the most widely used exchange platform in the world, X-stream can handle more than 40,000 orders a second, Nasdaq says.

YouTube Live-Streaming Platform to Relaunch With Gaming Focus: Report

youtube_live_streaming_officialblogimage.jpg
Google is reportedly preparing to relaunch YouTube's live-streaming platform, YouTube Live, this time focusing on 'live gaming and e-sports'. The search giant is said to be looking at this segment based on the popularity of Twitch, which it reportedly tried to acquire last year.
According to a Daily Dot report, which cites sources within the streaming industry, YouTube has already begun recruiting a team for its renewed push into the live-streaming space, and has hired about 50 engineers with expertise in the streaming industry."Gaming and e-sports in particular are going to be a big driving force for the new-look YouTube Live," one source told Daily Dot. "There'll be huge opportunities for established streamers and organizations soon and I would say that the record numbers of e-sports viewers are only going to grow when Google start promoting and partnering with these events."
While YouTube didn't comment on the report, the Daily Dot suggests that the company will likely make an official announcement at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the annual gaming trade show which is scheduled for June 16 to June 18 this year.
YouTube had started live-streaming cricket matches back in 2010 with IPL 3 (Indian Premier League 3), but that didn't gain too much of traction. Since 2013, YouTube has also been broadcasting e-sports any exclusive deals such as the League of Legends Championship Series, but this too is said to be more popularly viewed on Twitch and even smaller rivals, such as Azubu. In early 2014, the report notes Google also removed any mention of live events from its homepage.
