Instagram Gets Color and Fade Editing Tools Alongside Post Notifications

instagram_colour_fade_editing_tools_official.jpg
Upgrading its editing tool set, Instagram on Tuesday introduced two new creative tools - Color and Fade - for Android users.
While the updated Instagram app (v6.19.0) for Android is available to download from Tuesday itself, the iOS app (v6.10.0) with the new features will be made available in a few days, noted Instagram on its official blog.
With the Color tool palette (yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, cyan or green), users can now tint the highlights or shadows in an image. In the meanwhile, the Fade tool can add a quiet tone to images by softening colours.
Meanwhile, Instagram for Android and iOS has added a Post Notifications feature as well. The feature (via Techcrunch) lets user receive push notifications from their favourite accounts whenever a new image is posted. The Post Notifications feature is already available for Instagram users on both Android and iOS.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Announced for PC, PS4, and Xbox One

zenith_pistol_deus_ex_mankind_divided.jpg
For many an old school gamer, 2000's Deus Ex represented the pinnacle of video game design. It merged role-playing, first-person and stealth in a way few could, allowing for progression options that were and still are unparalleled. This was followed by a sequel in 2003 entitled Deus Ex: Invisible War, which lacked the scale and ambition of its predecessor. After that, we had to wait eight years for our next taste of the series with a prequel, Deus Ex: Human Revolution that was met with critical acclaim.
And while we were graced with a smartphone (and then PC) spin-off, Deus Ex: The Fall, it seems we won't have to wait too long for the next mainline entry into the series.
Titled Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, it's headed to PC, PlayStation 4 (PS4), and Xbox One. Its existence was confirmed by GameInformer following a elaborate teaser from series publisher Square Enix via a Twitch stream.
While it has no release date, the game has you in the role of the last game's protagonist Adam Jensen who has joined an international task force set up to hunt terrorists that have mechanical augmentations, giving them near superhuman abilities. Like its prequel, you can deal with enemies in violent, non-violent, and stealthy means.
A direct sequel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution is an odd choice considering the options players had at the end. How studio Eidos Montreal reconciles this would be a point of interest.

snapdeal_freecharge_buy.jpg
Online marketplace Snapdeal on Wednesday announced that it has acquired FreeCharge, an online recharge company. FreeCharge focuses entirely on recharges - you can only use it to recharge your mobile phone, datacard, or DTH service - and offers customers discount coupons for using the service.
Mobile recharges are a fast growing business in India - in November, Paytm revealed that it was poised to reach $1 billion (approximately Rs. 6,227 crores) in transactions by March 2015, and at that point, 80 percent of its business was coming from mobile recharges - and several companies including RechargeItNow, MobiKwik, and of course Paytm and Freecharge are all operating in this category. According to Snapdeal, 3 million mobile recharges are done online in India, out of a total 75 million recharges that take place every day.
MobiKwik has also announced a fresh series of funding, and an investment of close to $25 million (approximately Rs. 155 crores) from investors including American Express and Sequoia Capital. Unlike FreeCharge, MobiKwik also has a brick and mortar retail network. It claims to have over 100,000 merchants tied up with it, and has also applied to the RBI for a Payments Bank licence.

oneplus_one_black_rear.jpg
OnePlus has announced that its '2014 Flagship Killer' smartphone, the One, will not get a price hike in India.
The speculations around price hike of the OnePlus One for the Indian market started last month when the company raised prices of the handset for Europe (specifically the countries part of the European Union) citing the decline in value of the Euro. The company had even hinted that it might revise the price of the OnePlus One smartphone in India.
The Chinese company however, stressing on the fact that the One smartphone should be available at an attractive price point in the country, has decided not to raise price as of now.
To recall, the 16GB Silk White OnePlus One is currently retailing in India at Rs. 18,999 while the 64GB Sandstone Black variant is priced at Rs. 21,999 in India.
Commenting on this development, Vikas Agarwal, General Manager - India, OnePlus, said: "In line with our NeverSettle philosophy and long term commitment to the Indian market, we assure our users that we are constantly evaluating what works best for them; part of that is to continue to make the One available at an attractive price point. It is an ambitious step for a young startup, but for us it's about returning maximum value to our users by offering them great products and unique experiences."

Apple, Google, Microsoft 'Under Review' by Australia Tax Office

apple_britain_store_ap.jpg
Global tech giants Google, Apple and Microsoft are "under review" by the Australian Tax Office (ATO), senior executives said on Wednesday, as politicians grilled them about corporate tax avoidance.
The review means the tax office has not renewed agreements with the companies on transfer pricing, an accounting practice blamed for helping large companies minimise their tax bills, the executives told a Senate hearing in Sydney.
Developed nations are trying to crack down on tax loopholes that allow multinational companies to shift their profits from high tax countries to more relaxed regimes.
Australia is following the lead of Britain and the United States in holding a public inquiry into corporate tax avoidance, although the company executives declined to provide full details about their financial structures.

Kobo Glo HD Budget Ebook Reader Launched to Rival Kindle Voyage

kobo_glo_hd_twitter.jpg
Rakuten-owned Kobo has launched its new high-resolution display ebook reader, the Glo HD. The device will be hitting shelves starting May 1 in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand; May 22 in France, and June 1 in the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany and Spain at $129.99 (roughly Rs. 8,000).
The Kobo Glo HD e-reader features a 6-inch (1448x1072) display, the highlight of which is a 300ppi pixel density, the same as its closest competitor, the Kindle Voyage - which also features Carta E-Ink technology. The phablet uses E-Ink Carta screen technology, the same used in its predecessor the Kobo Aura H2O. The Kobo Glo HD additionally equips the company's proprietary ComfortLight technology, which offers built-in lighting for low-light situations.
The Glo HD features a 1GHz processor and 4GB of inbuilt storage, similar to its competitor the Kindle Voyage. However, the Glo HD edges over the Kindle Voyage by being $70 cheaper. Its price is closer to the lower-specced Kindle Paperwhite. However, the low cost of the ebook reader cuts some of the features the Voyage sports, such as automatic light adjustment based on ambient light, page turn pressure buttons on the bezel, and a cellular connectivity option.

Google Play Rejects 'Postal' Game Due to Gratuitous Violence

screenshot_postal.jpeg
It's a known fact by now that many a developer has had issues in interpreting Google Play policies. And while the company has stressed on inclusivity above all else, its actions dictate otherwise.
Recently Google announced a rating system for Google Play in an attempt to "create better user experiences". One of the side-effects of this system is that games like Postal - a top-down gore-filled shooter, has been rejected from Google Play. It's an odd turn of events given that games like Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, Game of Thrones, and countless others are still present on Google Play. Most of these games depict violence in a fashion that's a lot more graphic than Postal does.
"Unfortunately it appears POSTAL has been rejected from Google Play due to it containing "GRATUITOUS VIOLENCE". Sadly this means it won't be welcomed alongside the Grand Theft Auto series, Carmageddon and horde of Zombie games on Google Play," a post on the forums of developer, Running With Scissors, reads.
Fans of this old school series should not fear. Running With Scissors allayed concerns saying that the game will be made available through other channels.
